Who We Are

Plans a la Carte is a financial planning firm headquartered on the internet, with offices in Yreka, in Northern California, and in Glendale, in Southern California. We are a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and the Garrett Planning Network (GPN).

GPN Members are a different type of financial planner -- a new breed of financial planner offering independent hourly, as-needed financial planning and advice on a Fee-Only basis.

  • No commissions
  • No sales pressure
  • No third-party sales incentives
  • No conflicts of interest regarding compensation
  • No net worth or account minimums to meet
  • No long-term contracts or assets-under-management required

Just independent, unbiased advice, billed in easy-to-understand 6-minute increments, on an Hourly, As-Needed basis.

We work with people from all walks of life, providing Fee-Only financial planning and advice for everyday life. Clients have the flexibility to engage us on either a one-time, as-needed or ongoing basis. Remember, you don’t have to have a fortune to start building one. Our Staff:

Nancy Scanlan, DVM, MSFP, owner and principal planner

Unlike most other financial planners, Nancy Scanlan has a masters' degree in financial planning. She wanted the extra depth and insight that a master's degree could give, allowing personalized adaptation of plans rather than something canned out of a software package. She wanted to learn all aspects of financial planning, not just the information she would learn if she trained as a stockbroker, insurance agent, or other product-based advisor.

Unlike many other financial planners, she chose the hourly fee-based model rather than to offer her services as a stockbroker, insurance agent, or other product-based individual because she wanted to give pure advice, tailored to the individual, not the product. She joined the Garret Planning Network, which has been a pioneer in this method of practice.

Unlike most other financial planners, she is also interested in digging deeper into the psychological factors of finance. This allows her to help give insights into personality quirks that can lead to self-sabotage as well as those that can help with more effective attainment of your goals. She can also give you insight into investment behavior that can lead everyone into investment traps.

Unlike most other financial planners, she comes from a "real world" background, having been in a non-finance business for over 30 years as an employee, division manager, practice owner, and independent contractor. She knows the problems and frustrations people face in these positions and can fine-tune her advice according to your needs, rather than as a strict financial model.

Unlike most other financial planners, she chose the virtual office model, with emphasis on phone, fax, e-mail, and internet contact. This way meetings and seminars can be held anywhere, any time you have access to a telephone and/or the internet. She also has office space if you require a face-to-face meeting, and can come to your office if necessary. Where else can you have a business meeting in your pajamas?
